Unomachi maintains the traditional townscape from the Edo Era to the early Showa Period. You can see sites such as the Kaimei School, the Suemitsu family residence, a torii gate, as well as the Unomachi Christian Church. These are all either national cultural properties or city-designated cultural properties. There’s something to see no matter where you look in Unomachi. Even this sandwich shop, for example. Only open on Saturdays and Sundays, the owner of this 150-year-old house sells delicious sandwiches that are so gigantic they won’t fit in your mouth. But half the fun is stuffing your mouth full of sandwich and taking a silly picture with sauce dripping down your face.
