Several military commanders have appreciated Atsuta Jingu, including Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. As you might expect from the name, the wall Nobunaga-Bei was built by Oda Nobunaga as a show of gratitude for his victory at the Battle of Okehazama.

While much of the original architecture was burned down during World War II, Nobunaga-Bei remains standing thanks to the iron rods running through it, similar to reinforced concrete in modern buildings. The Nishigaku-sho was also spared from the same fires thanks to its proximity to Nobunaga-Bei, making it a rare remnant from the Edo Period within the Atsuta Jingu precincts.
