This hotel is in a very special place, right alongside what used to be known as the Tokaido road up until the Edo era. It’s the very same road that travelers back then would use to visit Atsuta Jingu.
Back then, the road was lined with many inns where travelers would stay the night, visit the shrine Reino Mimae-sha to purify themselves, and then head to Atsuta Jingu. The purification process included immersing themselves in the nearby river, previously known as the Shoji River, and ringing the shrine bell.
The Japanese gods find impurity highly disrespectful, so it’s customary to pay special care to the act of purification. Not just on a physical level but mentally and emotionally as well. We hope you can also visit Reino Mimae-sha before heading to Atsuta Jingu.
