The title of this artwork means “build it your own way.” The artist used car parts, especially car bonnets, to create the piece. The different shapes of the bonnets seem to represent the consumer culture brought by modernization.
The artist collected parts from Japanese cars that were discarded in Taiwan and stacked them in a large-scale work. During the creation process, villagers from the local area became interested and offered their help.
Interestingly, there is a nearby cave called “Sai no Kawara” where stones are stacked for a reason. The artist felt a strong connection to this tradition. What message does the finished work reflect?
