This artwork was showcased in 2016 and marked the beginning of the art festival. The artist found inspiration from “Zeami” during a visit to Sado. Zeami, a historical figure, was said to have been exiled to this island by the Shogun and landed on the coast not far from there.

The artist pondered over how Zeami might have felt during that time and decided to construct a replica of Zeami’s study. This study, shaped like an upside-down boat, offers a glimpse into the scenery that Zeami beheld – the picturesque views of the rice fields, the sea, and the sun – from this vantage point. The artist speculated that Zeami may have found solace and happiness on Sado Island.
