Continuing straight through Nawate Street,we reach Agetsuchi Street. As you approach the entrance to the street, a Taisho Romantic-style building comes into view. Surprisingly, this building is municipal housing. Built to replicate the former Matsumoto City Hall that stood here during the Meiji period, it shows that Agetsuchi Street was once the center of Matsumoto. Since the Meiji period, it has been one of the city's most fashionable areas.
The name "Agetsuchi" derives from the gravel excavated when digging the moat of Matsumoto Castle. If you go to the north, you will see the only remaining water-filled moat of Sannomaru.
