The Yakiyama-goe involves crossing two mountain passes, one of them being Kuki-toge Pass, where the road splits into two directions, one toward Kuki and the other toward Mikisato. There is a stone signpost at one corner of the pass, but this time we will head in the direction of Mikisato.

Until the Kisei Main Line opened in 1959, this steep road was in daily use. The people of Kuki and the postman traveled this road to and from downtown Owase and Mikisato every day.
