Ōishi Kuranosuke is a central figure in the story of Chūshingura. Some described him as a “daytime lantern,” a person of unwavering cheerfulness, but was not someone who felt very noticeable. Yet his life took a drastic turn after the incident with his lord. Despite many challenges, he became the leader of the Akō Rōshi, a collection of very unique individuals.

Some say that Ōishi didn't initially plan a raid. His original focus was on restoring the Asano clan, attempting to calm those who wished to attack Kira immediately. Sadly, when the younger Asano brother was also punished, Ōishi realized he had no choice but to act. Dedicating himself to avenging his late lord, he resolved to kill Kira, who represented the enemy of the Asano clan.
