There was once an honest man who lived in this town. One day, the man had a strange dream. A Jizō statue appeared in his dream and said to him, “If you build a shrine in my honor and pray before it, this land will be guaranteed prosperity.”

The man followed the advice from his dream and built a shrine, developed new land, and constructed salt fields. Legends say that this was the basis of Takehara’s success. Ever since then, Jizōdō has been treasured and revered as a protector of the salt fields.

Ebisudō is to the north, and Jizōdō is to the south. These shrines are also located at the edges of the town, and the gods were perhaps protecting the town by creating a barrier. The northern and southern edges of the town had been established in the Edo period, which may be why there is so much beauty condensed in this town.
