As you approach the torii gate, take a moment to appreciate the inscription: "Futsunomitama-no-Okami."

The term "Futsu" has a unique meaning. It captures the sound of a sword being swung, combined with the idea of cutting through challenges. This is much like the Futsunomitama-no-Tsurugi, a special sword that has the power to cut away evil and create new opportunities.

There’s a fascinating story about this sword:
A long time ago, the first emperor was on a mission to establish the nation, but found himself stuck, unable to advance due to the strength of his enemies. In this moment of need, the gods of heaven gifted him a powerful sword, saying, "With this sword, your path will be cleared." Miraculously, the emperor regained his strength along with his army, allowing him to continue his journey and ultimately unite Japan.

Feeling immense gratitude for the sword's powers, the emperor kept it safe in the Imperial Palace for a long time. Eventually, it found its new home here at Isonokami, where it was honored as a god. This moment marked the beginning of Isonokami Jingu Shrine, a place where the spirit of the sword is proudly enshrined.

So, when you walk through this torii gate, take a moment to think about the sword that played a key role in Japan’s founding and the heartfelt prayers of those who cherish it.
