“Sue no Sato” is the starting point of your journey.
That journey begins with the world of pottery, handed down for more than 800 years.

Many potteries are scattered around and smoke is constantly rising. The sound of kneading clay, the chopping of firewood, and the quiet gaze of people watching the kilns –
It’s the landscape of a “pottery village,” where life is lived alongside fire and earth.

Today, it’s been developed as a hub for Tambayaki, a showcase where works from many potteries stand side by side.

Here you can see traditional pieces that carry on the heritage, as well as new works formed from contemporary sensibilities.

Visitors can also enjoy touring the climbing kilns, trying their hand at pottery, and meeting the artists themselves.

And there’s one more important role this place plays: helping you find “your one special piece of pottery.”

In front of you are more pieces than you might ever imagine. Each has its own draw, and you may find yourself struggling to choose.

So why not choose this way? First, ask yourself, “What do I want this for?” For example, “I want a cup that makes my morning coffee taste even better,” or “I want a big plate that will suit the dishes I serve to guests.”
Try picturing a concrete scene like that.

Then pick up a few pieces, touch them, and feel their weight and texture.
Sometimes, the way a piece seems to cling to your hand, or a surface that makes you want to keep stroking it, can move your heart in unexpected ways.

If you find yourself wanting to look for a “different color” or “different shape” of a piece you like, try visiting the potter that made it.

At the potter’s workshop, you’ll find many more works lined up, and they may even be able to customize the order with your preferred color or size.

In this way, you’re not just “buying” a piece of pottery. You’re on a journey that takes you one step closer to its creation.
