This impressive lantern is crowned by a stone lion depicted just after landing from the sky, turning back to gaze toward Sakurajima.

The massive capstone alone covers the area of eight tatami mats, or approximately 13 square meters. The lantern was assembled in 1884 under Shimazu Tadayoshi using components brought from other Shimazu properties and stone transported from the Iso coastline.
