When Mangan-ji Temple was still located in the old Fukasawa region, it enshrined a statue of Yakushi-Nyorai, the Buddha of healing. That statue now rests within the small temple of Ruri-dō.
With his medicine jar, Yakushi-Nyorai gently heals sickness, both physical and spiritual at once.
Ruri-dō stands at a higher elevation than Mangan-ji, as if to watch over and protect all other temples. The gazes of those above reach the hearts of all other temple visitors below like a gentle light raining from the heavens.
