Similar to many other people, 2011 was a year that changed my life. At the time I left my job at a large company and spent one year living in the Philippines, followed by one year in China, and a final half year traveling across Asia and South America
After I returned home from my travels the Kiyosumi Shirakawa neighborhood was where I wanted to return to. Perhaps because this area is in the heart of Tokyo but it retains the green of nature and the flow of the Sumida river.
Waking up in the neighborhood and walking through the park you can see the older men fishing. Purchasing tofu nearby you can get a sense of the way the neighbors come together as a family over the dinner table.
My work is now related to giving tours in the area. What I have introduced in this guide is the neighbors of this town. Through interviews we were able to become knowledge about things that only the residents know.
We want you take this audio guide in hand as you visit the Fukagawa Kiyosumi Shirakawa neighborhood. We want to convey the background of the place and connect the travelers and neighbors. We hope that in this you can have a start to a new story.
