The road between the second and western compounds was built when Nakagusuku served as a governmental office and the wall between the two compounds was knocked down. During Gosamaru’s times, it wasn’t so easy to come and go between the two. While the western compound lost one of its walls to war damages, the foundation still remains. Let’s keep this in mind as we explore this area.

About 120 meters long and rather wide, the western compound is where the forces of Nakagusuku would hold their military training.

Below the cliffs is the Mītogā ,which literally translates to “husband wife well” and long ago people would fetch water from this well.
Human bodies are mostly composed of water. The people of Okinawa were well aware of this fact. Okinawans believed that bodies of water were sacred places. Utakis are located all over the island, and one would think many people would be praying to them, but the first place the people of the island would pray to is the wells.
