At this time, Gosamaru ordered that his two sons be killed as well. However, his youngest son, who was only 2 years old, managed to be saved by his wet nurse. One theory is that they ran to the walls of the First Compound and shimmied down using the west nurse’s obi (or kimono sash). Another theory is that they escaped through the Ufuga well. We previously mentioned the holes on the sides of the well that were used to let water escape when the water levels got too high; well these holes were just large enough for a human to escape through.

This third son was then raised by the wet nurse’s family at Kuniyoshi castle. When Gosamaru’s innocence became public knowledge, the third son was discovered and became the lord of Tomi Castle.
