“2021” is an art project that originally started in 2016 and has continued to this day.
Everyone has gotten wrapped up in the symbol of “2020” representing the Tokyo Olympics.
2021 is a counter to 2020 which instead focuses on what happens after. So far they have developed this project in various ways in Tokyo such as the performance of placement of a large wooden “2-0-2-1” object, and interviewing well-informed parties regarding the “2021” concept.
The 2021 #Tokyoscope set at Avex headquarters extends the 2021 art piece to all of Tokyo. The Avex headquarters atrium opens to heritage zones like the National Stadium and places like Roppongi Hills and Toyosu Bay Area. The city found within the assembly hall focuses on what happens after the Olympics in 2021, which is superimposed on the property. Through visualizing the timeline of Tokyo after the Olympics, the artists challenge the future of Tokyo.
On Aoyama-dōri Avenue as you look at the Avex headquarters, you will see the numbers “2021” written in large letters on the glass. The “0” in 2021 is actually a mirrored surface, and when people walk past on Aoyama-dōri there is a red line which lights up. As you walk into the building, there is another orb which is 7 meters in diameter in front of the stairs. If you go up the side escalator, you can also see many images in the elongated teardrop shaped surface.
