At an elevation of 149 meters stands the Chiburijima Lighthouse. It was completed in 1953 and has guided boats from the mainland. Back then, people even lived in the lighthouse, and perhaps to counter loneliness, they quickly installed a television. This would attract children, who would climb up almost every day to the lighthouse just to watch television. The lighthouse keeper was surely not lonely anymore.
