Using the earth to create your living. Paying respect to the original fire deities of the Island. Living within the natural ecosystem of the world. Planting trees in hope for future generations. And finally, remembering to pay reverence to the deities and demons, those things which can’t be seen within the human world but surely exist.
The objects we have introduced here as the treasures of Okinawa are all representative of Okinawan history and culture. But does this mean these treasures are only precious to the Okinawan people?
This time, we have had you search for the treasure of the Shimanchu, or Island people, which is how the Okinawan people refer to themselves.
Whether it be a small island or a giant continent, we are all, in our own right, island people.
While most of the objects we have introduced here seemed to have disappeared due to modernization, once you come to know of their existence, you can imagine them in a modern context. We ask you to search for signs of these treasures throughout your travels, even when you are in different areas, or when you are stuck in the monotony of the everyday. There are treasures to be found everywhere around you and we hope your experiences here will lead to more discoveries in your future!
