“When I grow up I want to be a mistress!”
They say that if you visit Nishiura for a bar crawl, you’ll either end your night with a hot pot of udon from Shingetsu or some sushi from Kinzushi.
This is a story about a girl who grew up at the diner known as Shingetsu, located at the heart of the bar town.
Her name was “Bebe-chan” and she worked across the street from the diner at a hostess bar. Like many of the customers at Shingetsu, Bebe-chan was a regular.
As she ate her udon and watched whatever was on TV, she would change into her hostess outfit right then and there. Other girls who happened to be eating at Shingetsu that night couldn’t take their eyes off of her tall figure and pronounced features as she casually explained how to put on fake eyelashes. They were spellbound by her seamless transformation to a beautiful woman in a blink of an eye. Some young girls would ditch studying for exams just to come to watch Bebe-chan’s transformation.
And while the word “mistress” or “lover” may not be the common language for most, for Bebe-chan it was thrown around rather naturally.
There were a few women around who seemed like mistresses, dressed in kimono and light makeup with a white “kappogi”, or apron. This sight excited young girls to no end.
What would you do if a young girl came up to you with bright twinkling eyes of innocence and said, “When I grow up I want to be a mistress!”
