How do you see the trees? This 20 meter tall tree is the Himalayan Cedar. The place of origin is of course the Himalayas, as the name suggests. It is a tree present in many countries, because it grows beautifully straight. The beautiful Himalayan Cedar at first grows like a Christmas tree, as depicted in a picture.
However, the snow of Tokyo is different from that of the Himalayas. It is heavy snow with a lot of moisture. Thus, the tree cannot bear the weight and the shape of the tree often collapses. Now let’s ask one more time, how do you see the tree? Do you think the shape is ugly?
Has the way you pictured yourself changed from when you were a child to how you are now? There is truth to the statement, “in adulthood there are various struggles”. When you come to understand this, perhaps that is when you become an adult.
Maybe the meaning of becoming an adult is to increase the number of people that rely on you. It means to quit living for just yourself, and that you have to change your ways. At first you may want to fight against this change, but before you know it you become someone who is used to change. At some point you may look up at the mirror and think, “it wasn’t suppose to be like this”. But do you think there is anyone who doesn’t have this thought? Even those who you view as amazing will surely have thought the same thing at some point. It is not only you who experiences such self-doubt.
Even though you may not be the person you envisioned you’d be when you were young, you keep standing firm and you are more sturdy than your younger-self. If you can relate to this, then you may see yourself reflected in that Himalayan Cedar. This tree has been taken far from it’s home in the mountains to Tokyo, and while it bends it continues to stand firm.
