Welcome to our world, the world of Ghosts.
Just who are we? You will find out soon enough. But for now, we will remain unseen.
After all, we Yōkai are not meant to be seen in the first place.

Since ancient times, the Japanese people have believed in the unseen.

*Trickling water*
The sound of footsteps on an abandoned waterfront.
*rustling*
Voices rising from the shadows of trees.

The rustling forests and trees, the flowing rivers and ocean, the still rocks, and the animals who speak no words.
The smells and sounds, the movement of wind and stars.

There is a belief that all things surrounding humans hold their own spirit.

*creaking*
A sound which can be heard from an empty space.
Who do you think is there?

*thump, thump*
The sound of trees in the mountains being cut down in the middle of the night.
Who could be behind this?

The spirits of those who have passed linger on in homes.
The Tengu Goblins who come down from the mountains under the nightly veil knock down trees.

In ancient times, people believed that these curious occurrences, these phenomenon which could not be explained, were actually the deeds of some unseen force moving in the world around them.

This unseen force was actually our ancestors, what would later become us, the Yōkai.

If you stare at the driftwood over there for long enough, doesn’t it appear to have a face?
Doesn’t it seem as if at any moment the mouth will open and start to tell us a story?

Yes, you feel it, right? The presence of something mysterious and dubious lingering around us.
