Kirishima Jingu Shrine and Volcanic Eruptions.
The Kirishima Mountain range is high in altitude and experience significant rainfall, often resulting in fog. From a distance, these mountains create the illusion of an island floating above the mist, earning the name “Kirishima.”
The Kirishima Mountain range is renowned for their volcanic activity. Numerous eruptions have been recorded throughout history, affecting Kirishima Jingu Shrine and prompting its relocation several times. While visitors offer prayers for minimal damage, they do not seek to prevent the volcanoes from erupting altogether.
Why is that? Understanding this story may change how you see the scenery on your journey.
