Kumagawa-juku is a relay point on the Saba Kaido. All of the cargo, including the fish, was transferred here before being transported to Kyoto, with up to 60 tons of cargo passing through every day. The Kitamae-bune were also responsible for transporting the annual tax, which was rice, from the northern prefectures to Kyoto.

With such a busy history and labor-intensive hardships, it makes you wonder,

“What makes the landscape of Kumagawa-juku so beautiful?”
Enjoy the journey as you find out why.
