Nagaya Street is an area that started off in the silk-reeling industry, with workers living upstairs and setting up shop on the ground floor. Though the industries have since changed, the same setup remains today. One of the shops sells a delicious Japanese sweet called “Real Warabi Mochi.” Most warabi mochi you see in the supermarkets is made with sweet potato starch, but this one is different. It’s made with 100% real warabi flour made from refined bracken rhizomes, which makes it incredibly chewy, and it tastes best if you eat it right away. So quickly take a picture of the jewel-like mochi floating on a bed of ice and dig right in. After a few minutes, the texture will start to change and you can then enjoy slightly firmer warabi mochi.
