In another guide, we introduce the villa of Garyu Sanso throughout the four seasons of the year, but here we’ll share a hidden secret about the tea room. There’s a picture scroll of Mt. Fuji hanging on the wall facing you as you enter the room, but the picture itself is partly covered by some shelves. Is that intentional? Is there some meaning behind it? As a matter of fact, the shelves represent a wave of clouds covering the mountain. What’s more, the circular window just next to the picture represents something too. Can you guess what it is? It represents the moon. Depending on where you sit, the light shining through the round window will change the shape of the shadow, the symbolic moon, to one of the phases of the moon. Small treasures are hidden at Garyu Sanso -- you just have to know where to look. =
