Nyoho Temple is a nationally designated important cultural property. It’s an unusual building that functions as both a Buddhist temple and a Zen hall, with a statue of Shakanyorai, the principal image of Buddha, in the center, along with tatami mats on either side for the monks. The temple grounds are covered with a rich layer of moss. When the light shines just right, it creates a heavenly image of stepping stones floating in a moss-filled sea.
