Every 100 meters on the Matsumoto-toge Pass you will find wooden signs with numbers written on them.

For example, the first reads “Matsumoto-toge Pass 01/07, 110 for the Police, 119 for the Fire Department.” If you need help or get injured, this helps authorities quickly locate you on the path. They also represent the distance traveled on the path and prevent you from getting lost.

There are markers like this on all the passes across the Iseji route. There are also wayfinding arrows pointing you in the direction of certain locations.
