During the Meiji Period, a railroad was constructed across the region, and the Hozugawa River’s purpose as a cargo route came to an end.

A sightseeing railcar runs along those old tracks. You’ll see evidence of their age ahead on the Meiji-era supports, which were made from brick. Later, JR laid new tracks that threatened to condemn the old ones to abandonment, but it was revived as a sightseeing railcar route. Like the old bricks that are visible only from this boat, there are views of the Hozukyō Ravine unique to the railcar.
