What superpower do you think this one has?
There are two types of amago. One never leaves the river, and one goes to the ocean and then comes back later. Though they’re all born and raised in the river, sometimes there are fights over territory, and the ones that lose are chased out into the ocean. However, the amago that go out into the vast ocean become bigger and stronger. They become a different fish entirely, known as a red-spotted masu trout. When they return to where they were born to lay their eggs, they pass on their strong genes to the next generation.
If you ever have amago sashimi and it’s an orange color, don’t worry! It’s because their diet consisted of shrimp and crabs, which have red pigments in them.
