What superpower do you think this one has?
It may surprise you to know that eels have very good noses, about ten million times better than a human’s. Even in ten thousand tons of water, they can sense food, no heavier than a gram. It may have been a necessary evolution to survive in large rivers. In order to catch eels in the Shimanto River, worms are used as bait upstream. Eels follow the scent of the worm to the trap, but whether or not it works depends on how skilled you are at catching them because they’re quite slippery.
By the way, eels have poison in their blood, so drinking it is dangerous, and this is the reason why there is no eel sashimi. The poison can be removed with heat, so be sure to eat it cooked.
