Takamasu is a stone-built water distribution tower that uses the siphon principle to deliver spring water throughout the garden.
Similar facilities were once installed across Kagoshima to support everyday life in the castle town.
The Takamasu at Sengan-en still functions today, delivering water from the surrounding hills to the garden.
The siphon principle allows water to flow continuously from a higher elevation to a lower one through connected pipes, without the need for mechanical pumping.
