Shinshō-ji Temple is probably much larger than you imagined. So far we have introduced buildings that are recognized by Japan as “Important Cultural Properties.” However, there are other points worthy of note.
For example, looking at the mandala in Heiwa Daitō (Great Tower of Peace) is quite the sensory experience. The net of human hair made to move Kōmyō-dō is preserved in the Reikō-kan Museum. Also, don’t forget to see the Iō-den Hall completed just recently in 2017. While there probably isn’t enough time to see everything today, if you ever come back to Narita, you should definitely come back.
Incidentally, since long ago people who visit Shinshō-ji Temple usually come to this park afterwards to relax. After walking the long path to reach the temple, this place could be seen as a reward for their efforts. While you give yourself a rest, please read “Column 3”.
