“It is almost like the gods themselves created the geometry of the cone” said the architect Kisho Kurokawa. The cone is this renowned architect’s identifying shape. It has become harder and harder to identify architects by characteristic shapes in their works, but in the case of Kurokawa his icon is by no mistake the cone. Enjoy looking for the cones hidden in the architecture of this building.
Moreover, the façade is absolutely unique. If you happen to see a picture of it, the charm of its winding glass surface may inspire to the point of wanting to see it in real life. However, it is not just its appearance from the outside. Once you enter the building, you will be pleasantly surprised by the embrace of a warm light.
Looking closely, you will notice that the curve on the glass of the façade does not really exist. The surface consists only of a horizontal and a vertical plane. The horizontal one is composed by “Louvre” style glass, which comes out from the vertical plane’s windowpane Furthermore, the dot pattern drawn on the glass softens the light that comes through.
In addition, the giftshop in the basements offers a wide range of original goods that can only be found there, so please be sure to visit there as well.
