A light switch and air control panel in a polished hotel room.

While people pay so much attention to fabrics and interior design, why are these aspects always left as is? Does this damage the overall harmony of the interior design itself?

The first people to consider this is mui Lab, a design team who aims to make designs that improve the future of technology and people.

They first picked a hotel in New York and made a design that would match the context of that hotel. The decision to use wood on the panelling to create a feeling of warmth and comfort was the biggest decision. Wood itself has no transparency and even if you managed to make it thin enough, there was no way to prevent small differences due to the nature of the material. On top of all this, wood grows and shrinks depending on the temperature, and ultimately, is not a material that really matches industrial goods. It took many trials of different thicknesses in the wood, different paint methods, until a final decision could be made.

The final product before you is a completely normal board of wood with no abnormalities.

This design blends so naturally into its surrounding atmosphere that one would easily miss the fact that this is actually a piece of technology. The only time you realize the true function of this panel is when it lights up to your touch.

We hope you enjoy experiencing this fusion of technology and furniture.
