This is another one of the oshi homes still in operation. Behind it is Nenokamija Shrine, which was moved from Old Yoshida to Kamiyoshida. It celebrates Okuninushi, the god of magic and medicine. Since the characters in “Okuninushi” can also be read as “Daikoku”, the building built nearby it was named “Daikokuya.”

Like other oshi homes, Daikokuya has a shrine on the inside, but it also had a fairly large shrine outside it, too. However, that shrine has now been moved closer to Mt. Fuji Station, and has become the main part of Matsuo Shrine. Daikokuya was probably not the only place to have an external shrine attached to it; it is said that, as more and more pilgrims came to Kamiyoshida, and more buildings were added in order to accommodate them, the shrines were moved into the homes to make room.
