Among the vast Isedōtai Site, the stone circles are concentrated in this area, the northern tip of the site. This area was originally rugged and uneven, but the Jomon people flattened it out to use it for the stone circles. It makes you wonder-- Out of the 200,000 square meters available within the site, why did the Jomon people decide to use this particular spot for the stone circles?

The Jomon people must have felt some spiritual “pull” to this particular spot that was unlike any other. What do you feel, what do you see? If you look towards the north, you can see the World Natural Heritage Site of Shirakami Mountains. Back then, the Jomon people must have seen that magnificent mountain range and thought, “We can see the whole world from this spot.”
