Neighborhood coffee. Slow down and meet your caffeine needs.

It is hard not to fall in love with this little shop. When you lay your eyes on the exterior you will be unable to avoid using the trite Japanese expression, “kawaii” or cute. Opened in 2011, Little Nap has a second and larger location only a fifteen minute walk from here. If you are looking for a caffeine rush try out the store’s famous “joint” drink, a delicious cocktail of drip coffee with a shot of espresso.

Close to Yoyogi-Koen station, when you approach Little Nap Coffee you will notice that the surrounding calm atmosphere is nothing like that of Shibuya station. Across from the store is a small park and it is common to see kids from the neighborhood running around. With so little space to sit inside, at first glance you may mistakenly think the store is unwelcoming to visitors. Yet, the charming staff, great lighting, and decoration make for a warm environment, and if anything the lack of space makes the atmosphere that much more endearing.

The first time I ever visited here was a nice spring day, and as the five to six seats in the store were filled, I remember vividly taking a seat on one of the shop’s stools outside. While drinking the latte, chatting with my friends, and absorbing the charming neighborhood I couldn’t help but be reminded why this is one of my favorite cities in the world. Coming to this neighborhood also helps remind me the necessity of rotating between the fast and slow lifestyles of Tokyo.
