Drink and dance. Party till dawn.

Finding the location is a bit tricky. As your eyes come across the sign “womb” you may feel the urge to double check your smartphone maps because the exterior does not indicate that this place is home to lively music. Long known for hosting top techno artists, Womb nightclub pre-dates the recent boom in electronic music. Opening in 2000 it has constantly been ranked by club magazines and other online reviewers as one of the best clubs in the world. While many of the features of Womb are present in many other clubs, what sets this place apart is the top class of the acoustics.

The history of the Tokyo club scene is quite unique, at least in the eyes of the law. Until 2015 it was technically illegal to dance after 12:00 pm. This arcane and largely unenforced law was originally created after World War II, when dancing establishments were often synonymous with prostitution. It was finally formally repealed a few years ago, so please rest assured you will not be in violation of any crimes by dancing.

The impressive part of Womb is that unlike most clubs, they remain open seven days a week. On weekends they also have three floors you can choose from giving you the chance to listen to different styles of music. Another strong point is that unlike most other establishments, the main floor does not allow smoking.

If you find that Womb just isn’t for you, but you’re interested in seeing other nightlife spots, you can easily move the party to Atom Tokyo, TK Shibuya, or Camelot, clubs that are all located within a ten minute walk of your location. If you have had your fill of bass heavy music, as you kill time waiting for the first train you can always drop in a Manga store for a rest or you can fill your stomach with a late-night bowl of ramen.
