The Kyushu Railway History Museum is a red brick building and the former Kyushu Railway Headquarters, which was later used by various railway institutions and companies until eventually housing JR Kyushu today. This is all to say that this building played a large role in the prosperity of Moji.
The museum displays restored passenger cars and shows you what passengers and conductors from the Meiji era looked like. As a visitor, you can immerse yourself in the booming and bustling era of Moji’s prosperity.
One of the highlights of the museum is the multiple-unit diesel train KIHA 40 series, specifically KIHA 07 number 41, which has been on exhibit since the museum opened. The exhibit explains how drivers maneuvered these trains, like adjusting their speed by using a clutch and connecting railroad cars.
The KIHA 07.41 has a unique and beautiful design, with six long windows curved along the front edge of the car.
The antique design of the train gives you a glimpse into a typical scene of Moji during the Meiji era. Close your eyes, and watch that scene come to life.
