Fruit, parfaits, and everything in between. A sweet appearance and even sweeter taste.

Western travelers may think that the sweets in Japan are dominated by Matcha and “wagashi” (traditional Japanese sweets), that they may have come across in their home country. But many will be surprised to learn that Japan is home to many high quality traditionally western style treats such as bread, fruits, and parfaits. The meticulousness of Japanese craftsmanship seems to have translated well into high end sweets. Many of the dishes you can order are so beautiful you feel bad ruining the masterpiece.

Japan is also famous for the 100 US Dollar fruits that are sometimes displayed in gift shop windows. While fruit at the grocery store is far cheaper, compared to foreign competitors, fruit tends to be on the expensive side in Japan. There are many factors behind the high prices but it is hard to deny that the fruit is delicious.

Going through the Sentagai gate, Nishumura is located just a few paces away on the left side. The gold branding hints at the extravagance behind the door. At Nishimura you can’t go wrong with any of the parfaits. I recommend any type of sweets that contain strawberries and blueberries.
