Curated and creative, yet approachable and democratic, Shimokita has thrived by giving space to artists. Though each of these places is minute, they collectively form what has become a bohemian paradise. Prolific self-expression has manifested itself into a wonderland of one-of-a-kind shops, which function not only as businesses, but as vehicles of conversation - the artist’s invitation to see their world.
Now as the art scene expands and adapts, it is likely that Shimokita will see newcomers transform the space to embody their vision. Whatever happens, I am hopeful that the warmth and openness that made Shimokita such a haven will help nurture the growth of an even greater creative community in the future.
This guide, like this area, might never truly be complete as Shimokita seems destined to be an ever-evolving art space. We hope you enjoyed your tour and come back again to see what new ideas are brewing.
