Though it’s expanded its presence to the entire nation, Uniqlo’s first-ever flagship store used to be here in Urabukuro. A dance-wear shop now occupies the site facing the street.
As we listen to Mr. Oga share his memories from when Uniqlo used to be here, we could see how the town has gradually changed over the years. Until a decade or so ago, the rent was low, and many young people opened progressive, liberal-styled stores. As the area attracted attention, the rent increased, and many stores changed their style.
Just walking the two streets down from the site of the former Uniqlo store down to Namiki Avenue, we can see how the town evolved.
