It was 1999 when Mr. Mizoguchi became the owner of Yokogawa Cinema. He used to work at a different movie theater in Hiroshima City. Yokogawa Cinema was originally used as an adult movie theater, but he's been handpicking independent movies to show ever since he took over.

Even now, he's the one in charge of deciding which movies are shown. According to him, some movies aren't even available in Hiroshima unless Yokogawa Cinema picks them up. Even some of the concerts held at the request of passionate fans are in a way a reflection of their cultural preference.

It's not just mainstream content that they show at Yokogawa Cinema. Not everyone might like them, but they scream to be seen. The Cinema's efforts to discover such content serve as a safety net in preserving Hiroshima's subculture scene.
