A rare Korean restaurant/bar in the area, “Bekkou” has quickly risen to stardom since opening two years ago, sought-after by many youngsters thanks to the Korean pop culture craze. The most beloved dish among all of the casual Korean cuisine is “bossam”, a dish that consists of slowly cooked pork rolled in Korean lettuce with kimchi and garlic, and dipped in their original sauce. The taste of this sauce is unique to each household. At Bekkou, they make an original miso-based sauce adjusted specially for Japanese palates.

As we sat at the counter on the first floor, the owner told us that the second floor has a totally different atmosphere. We followed the owner to the second floor to find it surprisingly spacious. Some beams were broken down to make an almost atrium-like ceiling. A skylight made of zinc plates and signs written in Korean both made us feel as if we traveled to the streets of South Korea. Maybe the young people don’t come here just for the food. Perhaps they visit the restaurant to get a feel of an authentic Korean food stand while spending some quality time chatting with like-minded people.
