As you walk through Peace Memorial Park, you’ll find a tomb standing on ground dug a level below, like the space where an old Japanese table heater would reside. This level is the original height of the ground in the Nakajima area, how high the ground was before the bomb. Most of the neighborhood had to be filled in to build the Peace Memorial Park. A tiny detail like this is an important part of the city’s history.
