I think it is easy for Yōkai to gather here Shōdoshima, because of the giant stones and trees, the mysterious ruins, the natural objects of worship left from days of old, and the early Japanese Christians who hid out here during the Edo period when Christianity was banned. And of course, there are remnants of Buddhism here as well. Many people travel here every year for the Shōdoshima pilgrimage, where the monk Kūkai is the principal object of worship. There is also a festival for the dedication of the giant taiko drum in Hachiman Shrine where the local people tend to get really into the festivities.
This is because this island has always had a tolerance and openness to other faiths. That is why Yōkai are drawn to the tolerance and peace of the island, especially since most Yōkai nowadays are actually cowards and they can’t handle getting caught up in a fight.
On top of all this within the maze of narrow, winding streets there are many places to hide, and you have the undeniable feeling of some unseen creature lingering over you. This is the door into our world.
*The sound of something being dragged*
Uh oh, can you hear that? It’s such a strange sound! Those are the footsteps of another Yōkai which recently moved to the island. Alright, shall we open the door?
*Knock Knock*
*The sound of something loudly shaking*
