MRS. TAKAYAMA KAZUKO (MRS. HIM PHEARP)
BORN IN 1959 IN BATTAMBANG, LIVES IN KANAGAWA

Phearp bought this Khmer silk skirt in Khao-I-Dang camp in 1980. She bought eight skirts at 600 THB per piece. Phearp bought these skirts hoping to resell them for some profit. If she could make it to the US, she could resell them for 1,200 THB each. Instead of going to the US, they were granted the right to move to Japan. They had to pass through and stayed at Chunbhuri camp for a while. There, Phearp decided to sell seven skirts at 800 THB per piece to get some money. She kept one skirt for herself when coming to Japan. She wears the Khmer silk skirt on special occasions to showcase Khmer tradition in Japan.
