MRS. SAM SONN
BORN IN 1956 IN KAMPOT, LIVES IN KANAGAWA

Sam Sonn studied to be a tailor in Battambang province right before the arrival of the Khmer Rouge. She did not get to use her newly learnt skill because of the war. Nevertheless, she remembers what she learnt. She kept her notebook with her at all times throughout the Khmer Rouge regime. When she arrived at the refugee camp, there was no notebook. Her husband used her notebook to note down on top of her old notes when he studied English. She brought the book with her to Japan. When she first arrived in Japan, Sam Sonn made three lace blouses.
