This shop sits on the very back edge of Oku-shibuya. Just taking a look at the interior design can give you a sense as to the style of goods the store sells--simple and smooth. Minimal Chocolate offers what is called “Bean to Bar” style chocolate. From the purchasing of the Cocoa, to the roasting and production, this style oversees the process from start to finish.
The different flavored bars come in shiny packages that you can imagine would fit in the kitchen of a spaceship. There are three main types of chocolate, fruity, savory, and nutty, with various specific flavors within each. I was surprised by the uniqueness of some of the flavors, such as fruity tropical. You wouldn’t assume that sweet and sour would mix so well, but this store does a superb job at balancing the flavors.
Looking at the shape of the design of the chocolate bars you may think the various piece sizes are strange looking. In addition to the design aspect there is also a logical reason for the layout; each piece is meant for different purposes. The large pieces on the end are made to be shared, while the smaller pieces in the middle are for a single bite. Each style lets you enjoy the chocolate in a different way.
There is no denying that this chocolate is expensive. But it is no ordinary sweet-- unnatural additives are avoided and the materials are chosen carefully, making it a healthy choice on the spectrum of sugary treats.
